In Peking opera, the Mo plays supporting role to the lead actor. Representative Mos include Huang Fu Ne in “Wen Zhao Guan” and Yang Liu Lang in “Li Ling Bei”. The Mo is a middle-aged man who is upright, stoic and measured in his speech and gestures.
Just like the black Pu’er tea that relies on oxidation to achieve its rich, heavy and full-bodied flavor, “Mo”s have wisdom nurtured through time and experience to be able to narrate a life story. While Pu’er tea may not be a clear standout, appearing lackluster when compared to the fragrant jasmine or the clean and elegant silver needle tea; what it makes up for is that Pu’er stands the test of time. Slightly tannic, with a gentle bitterness, and a sweetness that lingers in the throat.
